It has now failed after 24 years of service (door opens from inside garage). Will this Universal Wireless Keypad 387LM work in its place? If not, is there any other?

  • This looks the same as the Chamberlain KLIK2U that I bought from Home Depot and would not work with my 1990 Genie 5700. The description says it will work with 1985 to present. This will be my third attempt - is the description accurate, and will it actually work with a pre 1995 Genie 12 pin dip switch control? The unit does have infrared safety lights on the door edges.

This is not a KLIK2U. It will work with Genie models manufactured from 1985 to the present with 9 or 12 pin dip switch settings inside the remote control or says Intellicode. Programming can be tricky with universal remotes/keypads. You have to make sure you follow the correct set of instructions in order to set it up successfully.
