Make sure you order the correct spring by comparing the information below with what you have. Measure the inner diameter, wire size, overall spring length (inside the cones), and determine the wind.

How to Determine if Torsion Spring is Left Hand or Right Hand Wound: Please note the side of door the spring is mounted DOES NOT indicate spring wind needed. Standard springs are coded red and black. Red is right hand wind. Black is left hand wind. Always determine the wind of the wire. Right wound springs coil clockwise from the winding cone, left wound springs coil counter-clockwise from the winding cone. Take a look at the graphics at the top of the page to demonstrate wire coil direction from the winding cone.

WARNING - Garage door springs, cables, brackets, and other hardware attached to the springs are under very high tension and, if handled improperly, can cause serious injury. Only a qualified professional or a mechanically experienced person should adjust them, but only by carefully following the manufacturer's instructions.
