Replacement springs for Wayne Dalton Garage Doors using the torquemaster spring system. This specialty spring is made only by Wayne Dalton for their Torquemaster TMS garage door system.

Torquemaster Spring Steps

The information above is all we need or can use to determine what spring is correct for your door. Any other information such as part numbers, spring dimension, wire size, and door models is subject to variables and will not provide accurate or usable results.

spring instructions

If all the information you entered is correct the spring that you receive will be the spring currently manufactured for your garage door. The torquemaster springs you receive will not always match the length of your old springs due to the switch from an oil tempered spring to a new high tensile strength music wire spring. It may be different in length, diameter, or wire size than your existing spring, but it is the correct part that you ordered for the model of your garage door.

NOTE: It is your responsibility to order the correct part for your unit. If you guess the balance weight, you may not get the correct spring for your unit. We use the details required above to determine the correct spring for your specific door.  If you do not order the correct part, return shipping will be at your cost.

Plastic spring sleeves are not included.

Mr.
I ordered a set of new springs after being told by a garage door repair service that Wayne Dalton parts were hard to find and the only solution was to convert my door to a "conventional" garage door opener, which would cost $550. Before ordering, I found an excellent video on You Tube called "Torquemaster Garage Door Spring Fix" that allowed me to easily remove the existing springs so I could see exactly what I was ordering. Once the springs arrived, It took a total of about 1 hour to put them in and adjust them. It was a simple fix and worked very well. Very Satisfied!

Torquemaster Installation
There are a couple of good Youtube videos on how to install this: 1. Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster Garage Door Spring Replacement 2. TorqueMaster Garage Door Spring Fix Tips: 1. Make sure to get the correct type: older version VS. the Plus version. 2. The door size and weight: I found this information on a white sticker on the bar that holds and hides the springs (the long 16' one above the garage door) 3. If you have Two springs, you will get right-handed and left-handed springs so when you take the springs out lay them out in the same way and orientation they came out so you can put the new ones in the same way. The pair of springs are color coded but you can look at the spring and actually see that one is twisted toward the left and the other toward the right. 4. Put the parts you take out in order and put the ones that came out from right on the right side and the ones from left on the left side or use any other logical system you feel will make you get the stuff back together without struggle. 5. Use your phone to record notes. I did not have to use my notes to get it back installed. 6. If you have two-spring system do not get cheap and only replace the broken one. replace the two of them. 7. Make sure you use Safety goggles. I also wore thick gloves. keep your hands away from the cables until you make sure the springs are completely untwisted. 8. Make sure power is unplugged and only do this job with the door CLOSED. 9. Keep Kids and pets away from this job. My door weight was 178 pounds and you don't this weight to come down crushing things -DO THIS JOB WITH DOOR CLOSED 10. If you have questions, call their support. Shockingly, there are still good customer service out there and this company is one of them. I wanted to double check something and called and the person I spoke with knew what she was talking about.

To convert or not convert to Torquemaster Plus. I chose to convert, because the old system's counter knobs were faulty, and the old springs are hard to find. I'm happy with the new system, but WayneDaltonParts. didn't give me the right instructions. The correct instructions for the conversion are at Wayne-dalton.com/residential/Documents/installation/Convert-TorqueMasterOne-To-TorqueMasterPlus-MH-INSTALL-347283.pdf. I received the conversion parts right away and am very happy with the results. WARNING! Make extra sure the cables are in the cable drum grooves properly. When you first raise the door, do it for just a couple feet and double check the cable is winding properly.

upgrade springs and kit
We had the regular Torqusmaster springs and equipment and we're told by a garage repair company that we had to do an upgrade, which would be around $700.00. Well, as usual we thought it couldn't be that difficult to do it ourselves, so I found this site. We ordered the new springs and the upgrade kit and saved ourselves over $500.00! The instructions from this site and the ones provided are easy to follow and before we new it our garage door, that had been out of commission for 5 months, was operating beautifully. Even better then before. Easy ordering, quick delivery, and pretty easy installation by my husband and son, and some instruction reading by myself. Thanks Wayne Dalton.

I ordered both springs even though only one broke after 12 years of service. When the kit arrived I was worried that it was not an exact match. But I found out that it actually was an upgrade and the parts supplied were both easy to install and look like they are more durable. Thanks for the good job.

Inexpensive, compared to calling a garage door guy, easy instructions to understand, easy to install. Quality looks good...we'll see if they last as long as the original which lasted 16 years. Like many others, I tried to get 2 local businesses come to fix the broken spring. They couldn't or wouldn't do it and wanted to convert me over to another spring system ($275 - $295) I have a two car garage with 2 doors, so really didn't want to have two different systems. I had already researched and couldn't find what I was really looking for, but after the quotes, I researched more. I found this website and a few others, including the PDF for installing and taking down the torquemaster sytem. I was only confused about the left wind and right wind, and a simple call to customer service cleared up that it didn't matter as my door is only a single spring. The directions I found on the web and the (same) directions that came in the box with the spring were easy to follow. The spring system was down in about 15 minutes and I waited for the spring to be delivered. It arrived in about 3 days and the door was back in operation after about 30 minutes. Total it cost $63 and less than an hour of my time. Save yourself a load of cash and do it yourself. The system is very easy to operate after someone else put it up originally. Fool proof for setting the spring tension.

Everything went really smooth.I called around but everybody told me that they will change the system to so called standard and charge around $350-$500. I realized that once you have your system changed to standard it is harder to do it by yourself. So there are good YouTube videos and good instructions online and can really change it yourself. It took 1hr to change it and cost me only $120.

Door repair
Saturday night I heard an odd sound -- turns out the spring in the Torquemaster broke. Ordered a new spring on Sunday (why do these things always happen during non-business days?!?) and it was fulfilled and sent by USPS on Monday. I tracked the shipment from Idaho to Oregon and it arrived Wednesday in the normal USPS timeframe. Overall very pleased with this supplier - they had the Torquemaster Plus spring I needed and fulfilled the order quickly. If I need anything else for these doors, I will certainly check here first.

The spring and the updated kit work properly. Installation went smoothly after I stopped following the instructions. As a retired technical manual writer, I found that combining the 4 possible combinations of installations (single/double spring, front/back mount) only made installation more difficult. I installed the door in the first place some 13 years ago and found the original instructions to be far more helpful. There were 2 points that were unaddressed in the original instructions. One - a tab on the R/S end bracket prevented the bracket from seating on the track assembly. Two - there was an incorrect reference to insert the loose L/S winding shaft back into cable drum. One - removed the tab. Two - left off the L/S winding shaft (apparently not needed with update). Otherwise, a good product. I'll probably buy again if/when the second door needs attention.

Prior to the spring breaking, sometimes the garage door would work properly, opening and closing completely, and sometimes it would not. The door would either close and stay closed, close and then open again, or close partially and re-open before it closed. Then one day I heard a pretty loud "POP!" And the door would no longer open using the Wayne Dalton iDrive opener, and I thought I was going to have to replace the opener. After checking with a garage door company, I learned that to convert my door opener and springs it would cost about $850, so I decided to at least take a look at the opener and spring. I found installation instructions on Wayne-Dalton.com and waynedaltonparts.com. It was easy enough to disassemble the torque master bar and spring since the was no spring pressure, which was my first clue that the spring was broken instead of the opener. I opted to not convert my torque master to the plus model since everything else, especially the cable and winding ends, seemed to be ok. It was pretty easy to determine which spring to order, using the door height and the label on the torque master bar for weight specification. Ordered the spring from waynedaltonparts.com and received them in a day, much faster then the website suggested! I was very pleased with the service and speed of delivery. I then followed the instructions to install the spring. Fairly quick and simple process, paying attention to safety concerns like spring tension and clamping the door to prevent an untimely opening while on the ladder. Less than an hour later and the door works better than it ever has, and it no longer reverses itself when closing! Extremely satisfied!

Fixed
Our house is only 7 years old, so I am not pleased with the longevity of our original Wayne Dalton garage door springs. However, ordering the replacement parts was easy, fast, and accurate. I had some trouble adjusting the springs to the correct force, maybe this will help you: I started working both sides up to the minimum tension (14 turns) by 4 turns per side. Then, I checked the weight of the door by hand and worked up to 16 turns per side. Then, I used the garage door opener, adjusting each side by one or two clicks until I got it right. Otherwise, the closing force was too high for the opener (especially at 18 turns, the WD recommended). For me it was 17.2 turns (there are 10 clicks per turn).

Be sure to read the direction before replacement or installation. The process is easy but if you are "shade tree mechanic" like myself, you think you know everything and skip reading the instructions in full. Reading them will save you time, effort and a little frustration. It's pretty simple and an effective system and an easier replacement for other spring systems.

Pawl knob get is the way
I initially rated this with 3 stars, because the counting of the turns was kind of hard for an Attention deficiency person I apparently am, we'll more less I figured it out, once the door is fully open is necessary to have some tension on the spring so the pawl knob won't trigger. It is 5 stars, for the price and the safety it is pretty awsome, I don't know what balancing a door means yet, but it's been 2 week and works like charm. So thanks.

Ordered a single Torquemaster spring as a replacement for the single one that failed. Thank goodness you carry these and a very affordable price I might add. The thought of replacing the old Wayne Dalton i-Drive system with a new drive was not what I had in mind the day the spring broke. Thank you again!

I did it
Never seen one of these systems until i bought my house. Of course less than a month into living in our new home, both springs break. Watched a couple youtube videos on how to put these things together and what springs i needed. I ordered from these guys, and arrived as expected. Took about an hour to get the new springs in and put everything back up to the wall, which i found out later i could have left it up, but oh well. Old door was set at #16 on the tension when the old springs broke. I set these back to 16, but it was way too much, by lifting the door on its own. So not sure if these spring are stronger, or the previous owners just kept tightening the old springs as they got weak. Yet, they are set 14 and have been working good since purchase.

Thank you waynedaltonparts.com!
I was told by every local garage spring place that I would have to convert my Wayne Dalton Torquemaster springs to a traditional exposed torsion spring for $400. Fortunately, I found waynedaltonparts.com. They told me how to find all the info I needed to order the appropriate springs for my torquemaster, they had them in stock and they arrived 3 days later! I installed them in about 45 minutes and saved almost $300!! THANK YOU waynedaltonparts.com!!

TorqueMaster L & R spring replacements ordered & Received in 3 days. Super Service, w instructions. correctly ordered for door height, weight etc. Although replacements slightly smaller diam & each 4 1/2" shorter than orig. . they work perfect. No instructions on how to handle the plastic spring cover (tube) that had to come out to remove old springs so I cut them shorter and re-inserted them.

Mr.
I am very satisfied with my purchase from Wayne Dalton. I called a local garage door company when my garage door stopped working. I received prices of $300 (good), $600 (better) or $900 (lifetime warranty) to install a completely new garage door (instead of just fixing the broken spring). After a little searching I found the Wayne Dalton website. The website made it very simple to identify which spring I needed and provided very detailed instructions for replacement. Do not be intimidated by this pretty simple job. If you've ever put children's toys together on Christmas Eve you can handle replacing the spring(s) on your garage door. I would recommend having 2 step ladders (one on each side) so you don't have to keep moving one back and forth. From start to finish it took me 2 hours to complete the job.

Was able to purchase replacement springs for my original Torquemaster after local repair company stated they would need to ugrade me to the "Plus" version which would add another $125.00 to the repair bill. By being able to do the job myself and being able to use the original type springs I was able to save over $225.00

Happy Customer
First, you need to weigh the door to select the right spring. The factory label on the spring tube is not adequate for looking up the spring. The factory spring slides into a plastic sleeve. The replacement spring was not quite as long, so I discarded the sleeve and greased the spring. The rest of the install went fairly quickly and the garage door was operating in about an hour. The replacement part (shipped) cost less than a service call from a reputable garage door repair company and it doesn't take much skill or tools to replace it. You do have to keep the winding indicator dials - the instructions state to discard them. The new spring has a metal end for the winding gearbox, while the original was plastic. Subtle differences in the materials and instructions prevent a 5 star rating for the part, but the customer service, shipping speed and company response are definitely worth 5 stars.

Wayne Dalton Torquemaster Spring
This was the first time I had to know the garage door weight before purchasing the springs. I must say they have worked the best as this is my third time replacing them over 15 years. I put half the required torque on the springs I normally put on them.
